There is not much wrong here!  Possibly a few mild British cuss words.  A few lightly suggestive comments that can easily be missed by anyone under the age of 16.  All-in-all, it is a wholesome read for basically all ages!

The story-line is very well developed in a short span of time.  Although the book is technically 216 pages, they are small pages with large lettering.  The plot is quick, but engaging.  Lots of good descriptions of countryside and people.  Ciphers, missing persons, kidnappers, Sherlock Holmes, and an inquisitive young girl brings the story to life!  Although this is a junior novel, it has a complexity level that is admirable.

loved this book.  I read it in two sittings while I was at work.  It is a very quick read, and it is written for younger audiences.  However, I think anyone could read it and enjoy it.  There is a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end, but this specific story basically wraps itself up.  You will want to have the second book ready, I’m sure!  I highly recommend this to read, especially for girls age 10-14.  Boys may not appreciate it as much, due to the main character being a girl.  But the ciphers and the mystery itself would be fun for anyone to read.  I will certainly be back for more Nancy Springer!
